How To: Enable Offline Maps Features For Google Maps Android

Google Maps for Android is a great way to find your way around but what if you’re in an area with spotty connectivity?  If you’re planning for a vacation and need a route map, then you can save the Google map for offline viewing

Suppose if you running on a low end data plan, then you cannot afford to check the Google Maps every time, instead you can prefer downloading the maps of say 10-15 miles of circle of the place you live in. So that whenever you need to check routes or places, access the downloaded maps. Isn’t it cool? You can still get detailed information even when you’re outside of coverage. So, here is instructions on how enable Google offline maps (version 6.0) features on Android phones,

Step 1: Download Google Maps 6.0 apk (Link) and install on your Android Phones. (Note: the method to enable Android offline maps is different for Google Maps version 6.0 and version 5.12.0)

Step 2: Launch Goggle Maps and Press Layer button. Then enable Wikipedia layers.

Step 3: Now you can choose which area that you need use in offline mode. For example, if you want to enable the area around Batam. Then you have to hold press the Wikipedia icon“w” on Batam.

Step 4: Wikipedia description message will prompt out. Then you choose the Precache map area.

Step 5: Google maps will take several minutes to download the cache to your Android Phones. After Download complete, you can enjoy and navigate offline Google map around Batam.
