Samsung Beats Out Apple To Become World’s Top Smartphone Manufacturer
As we all know, Apple is the biggest name around when it comes to technology – especially when it comes to mobile phones and tablets. The iPhone and the iPad have both revolutionised handheld devices and for a long time it hasn’t looked like anybody would be able to hang on to the coattails of Steve Jobs and co.
But wait just one moment. Samsung has just set the bar for 2011 very high with the Galaxy S2, and has made Apple’s job at least a little more difficult.
Today, Samsung officially announced its financial results for the third quarter and reported that smartphone sales were up more than 40% over the previous quarter. According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, global smartphone shipments grew 44 percent annually to reach a record 117 million units in the third quarter of 2011.
