Samsung Agrees Pay Patent Fee To Microsoft For Every Android Device It Sells
The biggest Android device makers, Samsung will pay Microsoft a royalty for every handset it ships running Google’s operating system!
Microsoft announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement with Samsung, to cross-license the patent portfolios of both companies, providing broad coverage for each company’s products. Under the terms of the agreement, Samsung will pay Microsoft money for every device they sell that runs Google’s Android operating system (Android and Linux in general infringe on Microsoft patents). In addition, the companies agreed to cooperate in the development and marketing of Windows Phone.

Microsoft now has deals with HTC, Samsung, Acer, Viewsonic and a couple of other companies, which could mean that Microsoft will be generating a significant revenue from Google’s Android OS for the patents it holds, and probably more than it makes from its own mobile OS, Windows Phone 7. Considering that the company recently announced that they had sold over 10 million Galaxy S II smartphones worldwide, and Microsoft is likely to want back-pay on those in addition to future sales. via
